The majority of the problems stem from manufacturers trying to balance supply and demand for their vehicles during the current uncertain economic conditions. The situation has been made worse by poor communication between car makers and dealers. Ever since the global recession began in 2009 and car sales slumped, manufacturers have been reluctant to build up stockpiles of cars. Instead, more cars are being built to order, forcing production times up. This practice has also left the car industry more open to outside influences disrupting its production schedules - such as their workforces going on strike or the tsunami in Japan.
